Guangdong Province is gearing up for a revolutionary transformation in its manufacturing landscape, unveiling ambitious plans to cultivate a comprehensive semiconductor industry supply chain by 2025. As part of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the province aims to propel local manufacturing into a realm of high-quality development.
By 2025, the province envisions a flourishing new-generation electronic information sector, poised to generate a staggering 6.6 trillion yuan ($1.02 trillion) in revenue. This growth will be fueled by the emergence of a world-class electronic information industry cluster, with Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai at its helm.
A cornerstone of this transformation is the establishment of a robust semiconductor and integrated circuits (ICs) supply chain, spanning design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing. These efforts are set to solidify Guangdong’s position as a global leader in semiconductor innovation.
Moreover, the province is charting a course towards establishing an IC public technology research center within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This strategic move underscores Guangdong’s commitment to fostering collaboration and driving technological advancement in the region.
Central to the province’s vision is the elevation of manufacturing’s contribution to the provincial GDP, aiming for a remarkable 30 percent share by 2025. Additionally, the focus on high-tech manufacturing will see its added value climb to 33 percent of industrial value.
In a bold stride towards innovation, major manufacturing firms are slated to ramp up research and development investment to 2.3 percent of their business income. This commitment to innovation is further underscored by the ambitious target of 230,000 effective invention patents from these firms.
Guangdong’s semiconductor ambitions epitomize its unwavering dedication to driving progress and propelling the manufacturing industry into a new era of excellence and innovation.
