Odoo 20 Launch News

Odoo turned 20 this year. For the first time, Odoo Experience travelled before Brussels, with editions in Mexico, the United States, Kenya and India. Fabien Pinckaers unveiled Odoo 20 across two keynotes in Brussels on 24 September. Odoo then published its official release notes, which cover changes across more than 50 apps.

Odoo 20 Release Notes: What Matters Most

You find the official notes at odoo.com/odoo-20-release-notes. Five items matter most for most businesses.

  • AI agents create and update records, and run on schedules.
  • A native MCP server connects external AI assistants to Odoo.
  • Offline mode lets users work without a connection.
  • Odoo removes record rules, which affects custom modules.
  • The Light User licence lowers the cost of limited-access users.

The notes also list country updates. The US gets a redesigned Sales Tax Report and an Avalara Included option, and Canada gets the same option. The UK allows VAT returns for several companies without repeated HMRC re-authentication. Singapore receives IRAS-compliant reports. India adds price adjustment credit notes, bill of entry for imports and flexible TDS.

AI News

Odoo states all AI features now need credits bought through IAP. Several keynote recaps say AI comes with the subscription. The release notes and the pricing page say otherwise, so trust those two sources.

The native MCP server is read-only by default and respects user access rights. Partners are already building add-ons. One partner announced its own MCP module for Odoo 16 to 19, with Odoo 20 support coming soon.

Pricing News

Odoo announced its first European price change in four years. It cites 26% inflation since 2022 and rising costs.

  • One App Free plan: no change.
  • Standard plan: no change.
  • Custom plan: 20% increase for new users.
  • Existing Custom users: up to 7% per year at renewal.
  • Light User: from €7.90 per month, depending on country.

Light User pricing requires Odoo 20 and a new Enterprise agreement. Reactions in the community are mixed. Check your renewal terms and ask your partner how the change affects your user mix.

  • Native GraphQL endpoints: not in the release notes.
  • Bluetooth thermal printing for offline POS: not in the release notes.
  • AI included in the subscription: contradicted by the release notes.
  • About 20 industry versions: Odoo announced them before launch, and the release notes cover them in part.
